PCSX2 Tutorial

Around PCSX2

PCSX2 was the first PlayStation 2 emulator. Through persistent development, it has remained the very best one around! Game compatibility is high. It conveniently comes outfitted with its plug-ins, which can be customized. PCSX2 needs a fast computer in order to operate well. You may have trouble using it if you are using a budget laptop or even a Windows tabletcomputer.

Together with different emulators you can get away with using your keyboard . However, with PCSX2 it’s pretty difficult, given the PlayStation 2 controller’s miniature joysticks. I strongly advise purchasing a gamepad for this emulator.

Don’t download PCSX2 from their site

The downloading of PCSX2 from the official site has not been updated lately. Instead, you will get the most latest releases of this emulator from the’automated builds’ page.

Intro to plug system

PlayStation 2 emulation revolves round the plug in system. The same system utilized by PlayStation 1 plus N64 emulators. PlayStation emulators are merely the shell of the operation.

PCSX2 comes outfitted with plug-ins, so you don’t have to think about downloading them individually and configuring them. I still want to review the different kinds of plug-ins with you. It is good to be informed with how the emulator works. Here’s the list of them:

  1. GS – the graphic plug-in. This controls the images and 3D rendering. This controls how you control your games; if you use a computer keyboard or a gamepad.
  2. SPU2 – that the audio plug in. This controls the music and audio effects.
  3. CDVD – the CD/DVD plug in. This controls the scanning of your CDs/DVDs or graphics. This controls USB emulation.
  4. FW – the firewire plug-in.
  5. DEV9 – the hard disk & Ethernet plug-in.

Be aware you don’t possess to stay with the plug-ins that come with PCSX2. You may find better ones on the market if you Google around.

The PlayStation 2 BIOS is needed to be able to boot up matches. This is another download once you have downloaded PCSX2. Below you may download this BIOS.

Download from right-clicking the download link and go to Save Link As. If you don’t see the document extension, try showing them.

Keep on reading below for what to do after you get into the BIOS.

Newer versions of PCSX2 are just standalone apps inside a zip file. Older versions of PCSX2 install via a wizard. I will explain both scenarios.

Installing the stand alone program (newer versions)

Setup is easy: simply extract PCSX2 out of its zip file. Following is a video tutorial showing you how: how to unzip files on Windows.

IMPORTANT! PCSX2 must be set in a frequent folder on your own computer. I recommend Documents, Downloads, or create a folder onto your desktop. If you place PCSX2 someplace else on your main C drive, then you might be limiting it to unsubscribe accessibility. Doing so prevents PCSX2 from saving anything.

  • Open PCSX2 by double-clicking on. If you set up PCSX2 with an install wizard, then you’d start it by going to your Start menu (your apps list) and open up PCSX2 there.
  • PCSX2 welcomes you the First Time Configuration display. Click Next.
  • The next screen just reviews the plug-ins that come with PCSX2. You do not have to do anything . Click Next.
  • Next is the BIOS display. Click Open in Explorer, as shown below:You’ll be prompted with a”This path doesn’t exist. Make it? Click Generate.
  • Note the path where the BIOS folder is located. Open that folder up. Download the BIOS in case you haven’t previously, unzip it, and then drag its contents into the BIOS folder. It should look something like below:

  • It’s important which you match the above screenshot in your conclusion. Don’t place the BIOS files at a sub folder inside the BIOS folder!
  • Bring back the”First Time Configuration” window. Click the Refresh list button (circled below). You should see the Europe, Japan, and USA BIOS files appear in the white box.
  • Click on your desired country to choose it. Then click Finish.
  • That’s it! PCSX2 is now completely installed and configured.
  • Preparing the keyboard or gamepad
  • Usually emulators have all of the keyboard keys preconfigured, however, PCSX2’s keys are a fresh slate the very first time you start it! You don’t have any choice but to configure them. Again, I urge you to purchase a gamepad because the PlayStation 2 controller features plenty of buttons. Using only the keyboard is a frustrating experience.
